So, Capricon is almost upon us. I'll be attending. I see they've lost Frederick Pohl as a GoH to some medical concerns, leaving Sawyer as the only topline author GoH. Alas, a substantial feature dieback from their earlier thirtieth anniversary plans. I'm not on any programming or doing anything else of note, I just didn't have the ambition. Here's what I think I'll go to in programming terms:
Do You Still Believe in the Future?
Time: Thursday - 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
Midwinter Faire
Time: Thursday - 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM
Expect such exciting features as me looking awkward in the corner, or burying myself in a pile of people I already know!
Opening Ceremonies
Time: Thursday - 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Why not?
(Seriously, there's a homeopathy panel on Friday? Styled as a 'is it for reals' thing? Shoot me now.)
What's Happening North of the Border?
Time: Friday - 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM
Match Game
Time: Friday - 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM
I don't really know what this is, but it is in the middle of a programming desert.
Evil vs. Good: What Makes a Better Story? Evil or Good Winning the Day?
Time: Friday - 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
The Way the Future Was (with Boskone)
Time: Friday - 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM
What is this about? The schedule doesn't say. But it is with Boskone, which means it has access to the cooler panelist pool of Boskone...
Twittering SF: Summarize Your Favorite SF/F Book As a Twitter Post
Time: Friday - 10:00 PM to 11:30 PM
Quite possibly actually funny. On the other hand, I should also be thinking about hitting parties near this time.
Chicago of Tomorrow
Time: Saturday - 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Literary and Cinematic Dystopias
Time: Saturday - 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM
New Authors You Should Know
Time: Saturday - 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM
Is SF/Fantasy a Dying Genre or Just Evolving?
Time: Saturday - 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Cancelled TV Shows You Should Love
Time: Saturday - 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM
chicago-sf.org Book Discussion
Time: Sunday - 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Best Books of 2009
Time: Sunday - 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM
OR
Destiny vs. Free Will
Time: Sunday - 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM
A time slot in which I am actually sort of torn. Best Books is the safe bet, Destiny will probably make my head hurt on the basis of the crappy formulations of free will people always use. Yet it is what I am more fundamentally interested in.
